What is a court judgment? <\/h2>\n

If you have not paid your creditors in a long period of time, your creditors can start taking legal actions against you. However, the creditor will have to follow certain procedures before being able to forcibly collect on what he\u2019s owed. <\/p>\n

The creditor will first have to: <\/p>\n

  • Obtain a court judgment that serves as a legal recognition of your debt to your creditor. <\/li>\n
  • Receive an execution order that will allow them to seize your assets or garnish your wages. <\/li>\n
  • Respect the wage garnishment until the debt is paid in full. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The court judgment is the first step in this whole process. Usually, after creditors obtain a court judgment, debtors will want to pay off their debts as soon as possible and will get into payment arrangements with their creditors. <\/p>\n

    This is usually what creditors want. <\/p>\n

    What to do if you can\u2019t pay after a court judgment? <\/h2>\n

    Contact a Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT) if you have received a court judgment and you still can\u2019t find yourself able to pay or even get into a payment arrangement. <\/p>\n

    A personal bankruptcy and a consumer proposal will automatically generate a stay of proceedings, which means that any legal action taken against you will cease. You\u2019ll be protected from wage garnishment or seizures. <\/p>\n

    They will also ensure that all of your debts are cleared so that you never have to worry about creditors coming after your personal property, real estate, or wages. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n
